As a professional photographer and film hobbyist, I love experimenting with new colors so I wanted to try Dubble Film! I have been honestly wanting to try film soup but I was so afraid of damaging my film and labs not wanting to accept the film, so I thought I’d start with this one. It took me awhile to shoot because I didn’t want to have too many of one roll in each of my sessions.
I tried to get varied looks in the same light/setting/subject only seconds apart so I could see how underexposing and overexposing would work on the film. The image on the left (above) is underexposed and the color splashes are very visible. The one in the middle is right on meter. The image on the right is slightly overexposed. So, if you’re wanting a bright image with color splashes, I would shoot in the bright sun with high aperture and try to underexpose the image. Below, you’ll see the effects of the film present on underexposed photos.
Next time, I’m going to bring this film into the bright sun and underexpose just slightly. Since I was only experimenting, I shot on some cloudy days. I don’t think this was the best scenario for me. Especially because I have a bright and colorful aesthetic.
I’ll use this film for fun, landscape photos. And I might bring it along in a point and shoot instead of My EOS-1V since I need a more consistent film for “normal” photos in my 1V.
If you’re not sure which lab to use, I highly recommend Rewind Film Lab. It’s costly for me because of shipping with me being in Florida and they’re in California. But, it’s been worth it, tenfold.
