I posted about how I really messed up at these Pensacola Beach Anniversary Photos on Instagram. No lie, I got probably 50 DM’s from friends, other photographers, and locals about it. But, I didn’t mess up quite as bad as everyone thought! Promise.
I want to start by saying, photographing an anniversary of any kind sparks so much joy for me. If you’re married and reading this blog, let me ask you a question. When was the last time you and your spouse were professionally photographed? Your wedding? If it was after that, maybe it was for a baby? A friend’s wedding? If you’re a husband and you’re reading this, let me drop you a GIANT hint. Get your wife a photography package for her birthday, Christmas, or Mother’s Day and you’ll be golden for a very long time. All of that to say, this was Teresa and Todd’s 25th anniversary. Teresa and Todd were professionally photographed on their wedding day, but not since then.
Teresa told me in her questionnaire that she remembers her wedding photographer to tell her to relax multiple times, she’s nervous in front of the camera, and all of the things most women tell me before their shoot. Then, she stepped out of the car. Christy, JWP’s associate, said “Is that her?!” I looked at her and said… “I think so..” We couldn’t imagine how anyone who radiated such beauty could ever be nervous taking a photo! Teresa and Todd’s energy was felt the entire session. It’s not normal or expected whatsoever for a couple to just naturally “fall into” poses, but that’s exactly what they did. But there was one problem..
One of the first and foremost things I do at a shoot is tell women to remove hair ties from their wrist (or any other distractions) and men to remove all items from their front pockets. Well, that’s what I did. As soon as I did, Todd was giving me a “look.” I thought maybe he didn’t want to hand me his phone? I said “Oh you can just throw it in your back pocket, the outline shows on camera when it’s in the front.” Well, it wasn’t his phone. It was a ring box. Yep. He went ahead and complied and pulled it out. Could the moment be salvaged? Nope. She blushed as said “Ohhooohhh I didn’t know anything about a ring!!” They were both great sports about it. I couldn’t have asked for better clients.
It was clear that Teresa followed and read all of the styling information offered on the site. She brought a bottle of Veuve Cliquot, a picnic blanket, and wine glasses to toast to many more years. That’s when Todd presented her with a gorgeous ring their son made himself. You can see it, and the rest of their session down below.
