I met the owner of Taste of India, Rudy, at a first birthday party. When he approached me about needing new photos for his website and menu at Taste of India Pensacola, I was interested but wasn’t sure I’d be able to follow through. I’ve photographed food at weddings and little jobs here and there. But Indian food is a completely different story. I wanted to respect their culture and gifted ability to incorporate such vibrant colors into their dishes. I wanted it to be styled but not too staged and showcase the delicious flavors with pictures.
Finding Inspiration
I started off by shopping around for inspiration at Hobby Lobby (I ended up with the raised cutting board) and a few other stores. But, I essentially hit the jackpot at World Market.
This is where I got the colorful napkins, table runners, and a few of the dishes you see. But, the food itself is mostly put together by the Taste of India staff. I was honestly embarrassed to admit to Rudy I had never eaten Indian food before.
That night, I had to return to grab some night time photos of the outdoors, because it’s beautiful when it’s lit up. He told me to come with an empty stomach and I was so excited to try, but I had NO CLUE what to order! Rudy asked me what type of meat I like, how spicy, and if I liked rice. He came out with several dishes (way more than enough for me to eat). I left with to-go boxes of the most flavorful food and the happiest heart that I could help this business. I hope to work with them and I’ll be visiting Taste of India Pensacola again- VERY soon!
